A Fair, A Flashback and a Face
{A FAIR}
We took the boys to a kid's fair this past weekend. It was CROWDED. It was LOUD. It was impossible to keep one in a stroller and the other from running from venue to venue with the excitement of a three year old.

In High School the car that was passed down to me was this, an ORANGE (mine had a green hood due to my brothers hitting a deer and the only replacement that could be found was green) Chevy Phoenix.
I HATED this car. I CRIED the first few times I had to drive this car. In fact, when my brothers drove it, I WALKED to school so that I wouldn't have to be seen in it. (I guess I didn't know that it would soon be mine, all mine)
The only thing that made me drive it is that my friends thought it was COOL. It may have been really ugly but the thing drove like bUTter. I have lots of fond memories driving around slurping my slurpee and meeting up with my friends in my Orange Phoenix.

We sit Easton in his highchair for dinner and his COMEDY show begins. He poses from one face to the next and laughs in between. He stares at us making sure we laugh and then he continues. What a ham!

Oh, by the way....
"Your personal information may have been compromised" says the Department of the Air Force in a letter we received in the mail today. Great, just great.
They suggest we take a "protective stance" by watching our credit and financial records.

Long Time NO Sun
The past few afternoons have been relatively warm (we're talking 40's) and we've taken full advantage. Gibson and Easton LOVE to be outside. Gibson has enjoyed rediscovering the bike he got for Christmas and Easton loves his hand-me-down bike (I think he loves the fact that he gets pushed wherever he goes, all he has to do is point or lurch and "magically" the bike goes in that direction.)
We are grateful for the moisture our little town in the desert is getting but we're anxious for spring and the chance to be outside a bit more!

Love is in the air
We spent Valentines at the Utah Dental convention! Let me tell you what a lucky gal I am! This is what I got for valentines day!
*2 yes that's 2 (two) days WITHOUT kids (which means, no strollers, diaper bags, nap times, meal times, snack times, time outs, or carseat straps)
*Not having to cook a meal (or 6) including several small snacks in between
*A catered luncheon (with hundreds of our fellow Utah dentists)- it was catered and it included dessert. I was a happy girl!
*A nice Valentines dinner with my in-laws and Jared's sister Emilee and her husband Mike (where I enjoyed the BEST mac and cheese I have EVER eaten. If you go to Gateway and to ZTejas, you've got to get the mac and cheese!!)

*A MOVIE what was a New Release!! We saw Fool's Gold and really enjoyed it but made us crave warm weather!
*A night at the Marriott
*The chance to walk around a whole bunch of dental vendors trying to get as much free stuff as we possibly could. Basically, it was trick or treating for adults. We stayed late because we ran into some people we knew from HS and ended up with some AWESOME things. Tooth brushes, floss, toothpaste, pens, notepads, etc. We're set!!
*We had a dental school reunion without having to return to Cleveland! So much fun to see folks we knew in dental school.

One last hurrah!
I don't know why I think I want to be a runner, but I do. I've always wanted to be able to run. In HS, I tried to be a cross country runner with my friend Johanna. That lasted until we reached the end of the school property and I waved her on as I fell back to catch my breath. I think I turned around and walked home (it was convenient to live near the HS growing up.) I never returned to cross country again.
Well, I've gone and done it. I've committed myself to run in a duathalon in 13 weeks! When the race gets closer I'll say my official good byes since I'm sure it will kill me or stun me into some sort of comatose state. For now, any hints or tips on how to run and make it past one lap is appreciated.
What is a duathalon some of you might ask? Well it's run, bike, run. Sounds doable right? I'll soon let you know.
The great part is I've committed Jared to do it too. I've also roped in my friend Gillian, her husband and our friend Beth. Misery loves company!
So as one last hurrah before my affair with my treadmill begins, I made some peanut butter bars. These are the BEST peanut butter bars you'll ever make and I'm not kidding.
Here's the recipe:
3/4 cup softened butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 1/4 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
3/4 cup peanut butter
3/4 tsp soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp vanilla
Mix and then add:
1/2 cup flour
2 cups oatmeal
Pour into jelly roll pan/large cookie sheet and cook 12-15 minutes or until lightly brown in 350 oven.
Let cool completely. Frost with chocolate frosting (homemade of course)
I sent these with Jared while he was playing war last week but I left a row for myself and Gibson. I ate them all in one sitting! They are SO yummy!
These last two pictures have nothing to do with my last hurrah. They are just pictures of Easton that I took the other day.
This boy is a ham! He has such a fun personality and loves to scrunch his face while he eats.
He also found this box and made it his hang out for the day. He put all his favorite toys in it and then climbed in and just sat in it. He'd lean back and put his legs over the side and then tip it over and put it on his head. Such a cute boy!

Random Thoughts by Sydney......
Honesty, there's not much going on around here. Jared is off playing "war" which has limited our time together as a family.
I was able to go to "the city" yesterday and have a little retail therapy. It's amazing what some time in Costco can do for a gal. I was quite excited because as we were wondering down the aisles trying to waste time I found the ginormous cans of fruit. Peaches, Pears, Fruit Cocktail in the paint can size containers. I stopped to check them out because my boys eat fruit every morning for breakfast and I was shocked...these ginormous cans of fruit were only $3.29. Yeah. I've been paying $1.29 for the soup can size....Oh, I was so excited to find such a find!
That's what I love about Costco. Every trip you find something new that after you find it you wonder how on earth did you ever get by without it (like the uncooked flour tortillas, thank you Sarah for that tip).
So the reason I went to "the city" and had some time to shop is my sister Chana is in town for work and me and the boys were able to pick her up once she got done and do some shopping and go out to eat.
We went to shop at Steve and Barry's which if you've never been there, nothing in the store is over $20. The store in our neck of the woods is new, so nothing in the store is over $8.98! Yeah, good times! So Amanda Bynes and Sarah Jessica Parker both have clothing lines there. I grabbed a few things from each and headed off to the dressing room. In case you're wondering, they are sized differently. Oh, how sad I suddenly became when I couldn't slip my right toe into Amanda Bynes' cute black walking shorts that I had pulled in my size. I was able to get a shirt I had chosen over my ears but for fear of ripping it, I had to stop there. My guess is, Amanda Bynes is geared more towards tweens and I'm a few ripe years (and sizes) over my tween years.
Sarah Jessica Parker has some adorable things out and if you're tall and skinny like her, you might even be able to wear some of them! Luckily, her sizes come in "short" which Chana and I quickly discovered was our length! Such fun times. Bring me another round of those bottomless steak fries I tell the server at Red Robin. That will make me feel better (and it did).
(Did I mention that Gibson fell asleep on the way to the store? When we got him out of his car seat he was wet. Yup, he instantly got a new pair of jeans from Macy's. Pretty smart kid.)
Speaking of this smart kid. His new favorite show is Word World. If you haven't seen it or heard of it, check it out! Gibson LOVES it and wonders around the house singing the songs and building words.
We're entertained so easily around here it's pretty sad! Give me my Costco coupon book and give Gibson dancing animals and we're content. Throw in some chocolate for me and some yogurt covered raisins for the boys and we're content AND happy!

Reinforcement has arrived!!!
Thanks to Jared's sister Cassie who had a baby today, Jared's mom drove up to help her and we just happen to be on the way. She brought the reinforcement......the replacement.......our new microwave!! ( I say "new" lightly since it's a microwave that's been sitting in my parents garage for some time. It will last us 5 months which is what we need. So siblings if it's yours, too bad. You left it in the garage and if you want it, come and get it.)
The microwave that we got when we got married died a few weeks ago. We've been winging it ever since. Have you ever tried to live without a microwave? I honestly thought it would be pretty easy. I didn't think I used it all that much. Um, yeah. How do I feed the kids dino nuggets for lunch? Leftovers- how do you heat them?
Oven, stove top, toaster??? Yeah. We've tried that but I'm not one to think ahead and warm up the oven and put in the nuggets to they'll be nice and warm in 30 minutes when the kids get hungry. Oh, no. It's more like on demand feeding and without a microwave it's made it pretty difficult.
So microwave, welcome to the family! (Welcome to our newest niece-little Natalie Brooke too)

SNOW!
When my phone started ringing this morning at 7a.m., I knew it had to be for one reason. Church was canceled! We have gotten so much snow the past few days and especially the past 24 hours. (what I mean is, it's a lot of snow for a town that as far as I know, doesn't own any snow plows)
The boys love to be outside so we dressed them and out they went.
Gibson loved having an umbrella as a prop
Easton did really well and lasted about an hour in the cold.
Easton used his little walker to get around in his thick snowsuit and awkward snow boots.

HAPPY DAY.....
that is GroundHOG's DAY!!! (no surprise that Punxatawny Phil predicted another 6 weeks of winter this morning)
Groundhog's day holds a special place in our hearts. It was 02-02-02 that we left our warm home in Cleveland, Ohio and traveled to Punxatawny, PA to celebrate Groundhog's Day with 35,000 other people.
We went with 3 other couples, squished into one motel room and had a GREAT time!
It was COLD. I believe somewhere around the 14-15 degree mark and we had to leave our nice, comfy floor at the motel at some early hour of 3am to get to Gobblers Knob. We were frozen, we laughed a lot and we were there for Punxatawny Phil to declare another 6 weeks of winter.
If you've seen the movie Groundhog's Day, then you could say you've been to Punxatawny, PA. The town mimics the movie or maybe the movie mimicked the town.
They had a trivia contest and Jared and the other 3 guys won this smashing autographed poster (yes, they dress like that on Groundhog's Day.)- Notice he had it autographed for me!! What a darling.
Thank you Owens for putting together a trip that we will forever talk about!

Laurie was with us in Punxatawny on 02-02-02 and she got extra special treatment because it was her birthday! She got to attend a special party with cake and some other festive things throughout the day.
Laurie is one of my best friends. She's spunky, she's honest, she's as true of friend as you'll find. I talk to her at least once a week and I don't know what I'd do without her! Laurie, Happy Birthday! Love you!
