This morning while I lay dreamy eyed on my pillow, I heard Jared preparing to go to work. I then heard a door creak, tiny footsteps and a soft "good morning Easton" followed by the sound of a kiss.
The next thing I realized was Jared gently laying a sleepy boy onto the pillow that he had vacated a little while earlier.
Neither Easton nor I were ready to start the day so we both laid there and pretended to sleep. He put his blanket on my shoulder and I put my arm around his waist and we laid there head to head, cheek to cheek and enjoyed a few more minutes of non-existent sleep.
As the sun shone in the window and the minutes ticked on, we held each other like we both knew and realized that change is in the air. My baby boy is about to be a big brother. My lap that always has room for him and Gibson will now need to be shared and divided with a third brother. Snuggle time, play time and "our" time will have some adjustments and a large learning curve.
But for a few minutes this morning, we both put that aside and we snuggled. We closed our eyes hiding our eyes from Mr. Sun and we had a tender moment which I won't soon forget.
Eventually we did get up. Breakfast was eaten, beds were made, clothes were changed and out the door we went. We had smiles, a few negotiations, a tantrum {or two}, soaked diaper= soaked pants, carseat wars, and a lunch fiasco.
Then, it was nap time {which I am trying to reinstate around our house}.
Once again I laid with my sweet boy, he on his side, me on mine. Forehead to forehead, almost nose to nose. He uttered sweet statements like "mom, I love you" over and over and I in turn, said "I love you too". His breathing eventually got deeper and the words soon turned to snores and my little man was sound asleep.
As I lay there trying to once again soak in the moment, I heard Gibson putting together a massive jumbo puzzle and giving himself a pep talk the entire time! It's hard to believe that not too long ago he was Easton's age and I was soaking up the last few days with him before the arrival of Easton.
Time. Why is it going so fast when it comes to my little guys growing up?
I'm glad for tender moments like I was able to share with Easton today. Not once but twice. I needed those moments to soak in my baby boy. I know that he's suddenly going to seem so much bigger once we have a newborn in the house again.
I hope that as we laid there sharing the same air, he'll know that no matter the change, he'll always be my baby boy.
