This morning while I lay dreamy eyed on my pillow, I heard Jared preparing to go to work. I then heard a door creak, tiny footsteps and a soft "good morning Easton" followed by the sound of a kiss.
The next thing I realized was Jared gently laying a sleepy boy onto the pillow that he had vacated a little while earlier.
Neither Easton nor I were ready to start the day so we both laid there and pretended to sleep. He put his blanket on my shoulder and I put my arm around his waist and we laid there head to head, cheek to cheek and enjoyed a few more minutes of non-existent sleep.
As the sun shone in the window and the minutes ticked on, we held each other like we both knew and realized that change is in the air. My baby boy is about to be a big brother. My lap that always has room for him and Gibson will now need to be shared and divided with a third brother. Snuggle time, play time and "our" time will have some adjustments and a large learning curve.
But for a few minutes this morning, we both put that aside and we snuggled. We closed our eyes hiding our eyes from Mr. Sun and we had a tender moment which I won't soon forget.
Eventually we did get up. Breakfast was eaten, beds were made, clothes were changed and out the door we went. We had smiles, a few negotiations, a tantrum {or two}, soaked diaper= soaked pants, carseat wars, and a lunch fiasco.
Then, it was nap time {which I am trying to reinstate around our house}.
Once again I laid with my sweet boy, he on his side, me on mine. Forehead to forehead, almost nose to nose. He uttered sweet statements like "mom, I love you" over and over and I in turn, said "I love you too". His breathing eventually got deeper and the words soon turned to snores and my little man was sound asleep.
As I lay there trying to once again soak in the moment, I heard Gibson putting together a massive jumbo puzzle and giving himself a pep talk the entire time! It's hard to believe that not too long ago he was Easton's age and I was soaking up the last few days with him before the arrival of Easton.
Time. Why is it going so fast when it comes to my little guys growing up?
I'm glad for tender moments like I was able to share with Easton today. Not once but twice. I needed those moments to soak in my baby boy. I know that he's suddenly going to seem so much bigger once we have a newborn in the house again.
I hope that as we laid there sharing the same air, he'll know that no matter the change, he'll always be my baby boy.

That was so sweet! I had an afternoon like that with my boys the day before Jack was born. We just all laid in my bed and watched TV and snuggled. I tell you... the third one makes getting times like this tough! Not to mention that I REALLY don't have time to do what I want any more... at least until Jack is a little older. It's been a blurry first three weeks! I thought I was ready (well, physically I was!) but it's more than I ever expected... in every way! Good luck! I can't wait to hear when your new little boy comes!
I love sleepy mornings like that. And it was strange how BIG Maddy seemed once Hank got here.
Can I be invited to your private blog? Please? Oh, come on...
Oh I am totally crying! I so remember feeling like that before I had BRiley. I didn't have time to feel like that before I had Blakely,(she was too early) but I appologize to Briley everyday that she didn't get more time to be the baby. Kids really do grow too fast. I can't wait to see your new addition. I hope it all goes well.
What a perfect morning. I love those times that I just sit back and enjoy being a mom. I think we should do it more often. I can't wait to see the next little Condie addition. I will be on stand by!
Cutest, sweetest, most tender post ever! I loved it!
It's so crazy to think back to the days just before the birth of number 2, isn't it? I can only imagine what thoughts you'll have this time next week. It's all so exciting and terrifying, I'm sure. I'm also sure your joy will grow exponentially. I'm excited to meet #3!
So happy you and Easton were able to share such a sweet moment. Twice!
priceless!!!
That is the best-- and your writing will keep it that real forever. Thanks for sharing.
Good luck to you, Sydney. I hope all goes well. I love the pictures of you. We would love to be invited to your private blog.

-K- I just loved that post, I have felt really rushed and hurried and not felt like a good mom at all lately, your post just made me want to slow things down, and just love those tender moments. Thanks so much for sharing!
Sweet Syd. Thanks for sharing.
What a sweet post. Isn't it true? It's hard to let change happen - exciting, but hard. It's hard to let them grow up but so so special when you have tender moments like these...Congratulations on your cute little guy!
