Room Mother 101
When Gibson was just a wee little lad. One of my friends who had children in elementary school was actively involved in her children's school. She was doing this and that at every opportunity she could.
It was then that she let me in on a little secret. She told me that she felt the more you were involved in school, the better your child was treated.
Whether this is true or not, I'll let you know in a few years. However, I have the wonderful opportunity to stay home and raise my boys. I only think it's right that I offer any and all help to the school that is educating my son.
We support fund raisers, we attend the book fair, I bought t-shirts with the schools logo on it and I volunteered to be Gibson's room mother.
I've been able to go on a field trip with Gibson and also be in the classroom helping out with writing assignments. Yesterday I was able to be one of the mother helpers for the pumpkin carving assignment they had. So. Much. Fun!
I could never be a kindergarten teacher. I am however, very happy to take a roomful of kindergartners at small increments!
Volunteering in the classroom has been a great way for me to see Gibson interact with other kids. I highly recommend it.

Oh you are such a good momma! Glad you are his room mom! I bet he LOVES that! I parent help here and there and it sure makes me want to give that teacher a huge prize! I can't imagine doing it everyday, YIKES!! You look so pretty!! Hair is gettin long!
I am soooooo glad someone gave me the advie that if I am going to work I HAVE to make sure to be in the kids classrooms every week. I may nto be home evey single day, but I am at the school every single week. Love it! I remember thinking the same way about kindergarden and NO WAY could I do that job - not even the half day schedule we ahve here....but let me tell you...helping in 1st grade...wo!...I'll take K over 1st. So grateful for teachers who have more patience than me and who are talented. I'm looking forward to the Halloween party tomorrow....as I ahve been up making pumpkin treats - look cute - a lot of work - and will eb destroyed in 3 seconda by every kids. Millie's excitement makes it soooo worth it. I think the notion of your kids being treated better is true...at least it has been for us...we made it thorugh the first couple weeks drama and stomach aches just fine. Oh...I can't wait to see you and hear all of the details of your life.... You do look great and I too noticed your hair is getting long.

It sounds lame...but it has worked every single year for me, but one.
When the mom takes an active role in her child's education I really believe the teacher does as well! Maybe not something anyone wants to admit...
At the end of the year the teacher always asks me how she/he can ever re-pay me for all the time I spend in the classroom. My response is always the same...just look out for my kid and make sure he/she gets the best teacher for their specific personalities next year. I have not been disappointed :)
And, besides all of that...you will never regret that extra bit of time you spent with your own kid :) My kids just know I will always be there for them. I love that. My kids know I support their education 110%.
